Colouring Techniques for Anodised Aluminium

Colouring Techniques for Anodised Aluminium with tutor Mandy Nash

10.00 am to 4.00 pm - £55 to include materials - Bring Packed Lunch

Saturday 4th June, 2011

Join Mandy to design and make your own jewellery from aluminium.  You'll learn how to colour the pre-anodised aluminium and  then cut and shape it to create a piece of beautiful jewellery.

No prior experience is necessary and all materials and equipment will be provided, however, if you have previous experience in jewellery making, you may benefit from bringing along your toolbox.  You may also like to bring along any sketches or images of designs you would like to make and any examples of colour combinations and/or patterns that you could incorporate onto the aluminium.

Please note that this course does not take you through the process of anodising aluminium.  The sheets that you will be working with will already have been pre-anodised.

Designer maker, Mandy Nash, set up her workshop in 1983 directly after leaving the Royal College of Art. She discovered anodised aluminium when studying jewellery and silversmithing at Birmingham Polytechnic and has been working with it ever since; its lightness enables her to make large, bold pieces which are wearable and affordable. Most importantly, by anodising it, she can achieve bright and brilliant colour effects. Her three passions are colour, pattern, and technique.  She loves  making things and exploring the possibilities of different materials.  Although trained as a jeweller, her work has been heavily influenced by both traditional and contemporary textiles and she works in felt  making larger pieces that complement her jewellery collections  Much of her recent work has evolved from looking back at her creative ancestry - how her grandmothers initiated her fascination with  making objects by passing on their traditional textile skills and stating her passion in creating anything from colourful materials.
