The next Enamelling Beginners Course is on Saturday 14th May, 2011
This is a beginners' course. Spend a day learning the basics of using vitreous enamel to enhance jewellery with wonderful colour.We will cover dry applications, (sifting and scraffito) using mainly copper for samples, and then move onto using silver as a base. The course covers preparation of metals, grinding and cleaning enamels for wet-layering, firing, stoning and finishing. We will also discuss designing for enamelling and solving common problems. You may bring your own silver samples for trouble-shooting.
About Tamizan Savill - Tamizan started working with silver in 1990 and enamels in 1994. She used to build recording studios for young people but enamelling is much quieter. Soon after she went full-time in 2001, Tamizan won an award for Artists from ACE. Bristol Cathedral commissioned badges for the new Ecumenical Prebendaries in 2002, with four more in 2005. The Friends of Bristol Art Gallery commissioned a Badge of Office for their President in 2007.
Tamizan is an active member of the Association for Contemporary Jewellery, Bristol (ACJ) and currently a director of the National ACJ. She's a member of the Guild of Enamellers winning both Enameller Elect and the Fred Barnes Memorial Award at Guild Conference in 2007.
